ÁÅÐÐÎÓÇ, ÓÈËÜßÌ ÑÜÞÀÐÄ (Burroughs, William Seward) (ð. 1914), àìåðèêàíñêèé ïèñàòåëü. Ðîäèëñÿ 5 ôåâðàëÿ 1914 â Ñåíò-Ëóèñå. Îêîí÷èâ Ãàðâàðäñêèé óíèâåðñèòåò (1936), çàíèìàëñÿ àðõåîëîãèåé è ýòíîëîãèåé.  1944 ïðèñòðàñòèëñÿ ê ìîðôèþ, 15 ëåò áûë íàðêîìàíîì; â åãî ïåðâîì ðîìàíå Íà èãëå (Junkie, 1953) ñ ïóãàþùåé äîñòîâåðíîñòüþ îïèñàí îáðàç æèçíè íàðêîìàíà. Ñàìàÿ èçâåñòíàÿ êíèãà Áåððîóçà Ãîëûé çàâòðàê (Naked Lunch, 1959) - õàðàêòåðíàÿ ôàíòàñìàãîðèÿ íàñèëèÿ, ñîñòîÿùàÿ èç ãðóáûõ, áîëåçíåííî ïðåóâåëè÷åííûõ îïèñàíèé, êîòîðûå ñîïðÿæåíû â äóõå ñþððåàëèçìà è "ñâîáîäíî" ñêîìïîíîâàíû â êàëåéäîñêîïè÷åñêîé ìàíåðå. Êíèãà ïîëó÷èëà ñêàíäàëüíóþ èçâåñòíîñòü. Çàùèòíèêè Áåððîóçà óïîäîáëÿëè åãî Äæ. Ñâèôòó â òîì ïëàíå, ÷òî, æèâîïèñóÿ ìåðçîñòè, îí òåì ñàìûì âåðøèò ñóðîâûé ìîðàëüíûé ñóä.  ïîçäíèõ ðîìàíàõ Áåððîóçà ìåòàôîðà íàðêîòè÷åñêîé çàâèñèìîñòè êàê ñðåäñòâà ïîä÷èíåíèÿ ÷åëîâåêà îáëå÷åíà â ôîðìó íàó÷íî-ôàíòàñòè÷åñêîãî ñþæåòà î ãðóïïå "íîâà" - èíîïëàíåòÿíàõ, êîòîðûå ñòðåìÿòñÿ ïîãóáèòü ÷åëîâå÷åñòâî, íàñàæäàÿ çàïðåòíûå, âõîäÿùèå â ïðèâû÷êó íàñëàæäåíèÿ. Ñ êîíöà 1960-õ ãîäîâ Áåððîóç íà÷àë ýêñïåðèìåíòèðîâàòü ñ ôîðìîé: äðîáèòü ïðåäëîæåíèÿ è ìåíÿòü ìåñòàìè ôðàãìåíòû, äàáû ñîçäàòü íîâûå îáðàçû è îñâîáîäèòüñÿ îò "ïîä÷èíåíèÿ" ïðèíÿòûì íîðìàì ïîâåñòâîâàíèÿ. Áåððîóçó ïðèíàäëåæàò òàêæå ðîìàíû Èñòðåáèòåëü (The Exterminator, 1960), Ìàøèíà ðàçìÿã÷åíèÿ (The Soft Machine, 1961), Áèëåò âçîðâàëñÿ (The Ticket That Exploded, 1962), Íîâà ýêñïðåññ (Nova Express, 1964), Äèêèå ïàðíè (The Wild Boys, 1971), Èñòðåáèòåëü! (Exterminator!, 1973), Ìåðòâûå äîðîãè (The Place of Dead Roads, 1984), Ãîìîñåê (Queer, 1986).
